Server Location

Where in the world the server is physically hosted

What it is

Maps the server's IP to a physical location using a geolocation database, which associates address ranges with known data centres and ISPs. From the coordinates you also get the country, region and timezone. The address also belongs to a network, numbered by its ASN, which names who runs the infrastructure.

Why it matters

Where a site is hosted hints at where its audience or its operator is. It also decides latency, and anything that turns on jurisdiction: data residency rules, sanctions, or whose courts a request would go through. Bear in mind this locates the data centre, not the company.

How this assessment works

Skopeon Labs queries public infrastructure signals and authoritative network protocols directly from external sensor nodes. All evaluations are completely non-invasive and agentless, assessing observable configurations without sending malicious payloads or disrupting service.

Operational Scope & Limitations

This check evaluates public perimeter responses observable at the time of inquiry. Endpoints protected behind third-party reverse proxies or CDNs reflect the edge configuration of the proxy layer.

Key terms

IP Geolocation
An estimate of where a server is, based on its IP address. It's usually right about the country, but often wrong about the city.
